Would it be best to complete all schooling in the U.S. before moving to Israel or not

Would it be best to complete all schooling in the U.S. before moving to Israel or not?
I want to become a doctor and I'd also like to live and work in Israel eventually, but would it be better for me to complete all of my schooling and residency in the U.S., or should I do some of it in Israel? Would either way give me a better chance at securing a position in my field once I move to Israel?

Come to Israel for a visit, and you can visit us here at The Technion (Medical School) and see our Health Care Services and decide then. Work in the Health Care Profession is not easy, but without persons such yourself we could not survive!

i can answer personalyy-im going to be a dr of psychology, i am doing my shooling-at least until my masters, then prob my phd online-to move to israel. but this is bc it is extramely difficult to get a psychology degree in israel. i think though that if you do not know the language fluently including the techincal terms you might have a hard time

Israel will not offer the same opportunity for learning the US will. Due simply to size. what ever kind of training you can get there you can get in multiple locations in America. What field do you intend. If simple family medicine, it won't matter much, but your residency would probably need to be on the people you want to treat in their sitting. How many credits do you lose in transfer would be my first question.

There are pros and cons in both options. I would sugest to take a pilot trip and talk to prospective Universities and possible places of work to get a better picture. However one big good thing for you. Israel at the moment expiriencing shortage of medical doctors and it is a matter of policy to encourage people to study medicine and to encourage trained Jewish doctors from diaspora to make aliya. If you make aliya as a doctor I believe they will assist with job search and language studies. So contact your nearest Jewish agency responcible for aliya and ask your questions.

Ronny R has no idea what he is talking about... he even said "Israelians"! Never heard of those people before... I don't really have a knowledgeable answer to this question because I don't know what it takes to be a doctor in Israel. But I think you could choose to finish your education in the US or Israel and you would be fine. In Israel they know that an education in the US is very good, and they know an Israeli education is good too. So you should choose whichever one would make you the happiest. Good luck! Shalom, Salaam

There are many factors in a decision like that... Let me see if I can list a few of the biggies: 1. Previous education - to be accepted to medical school in Israel, you must either have a matriculation certificate from an Israeli high school or you will be required to spend a year in preparatory school (mechina) before beginning your studies. Alternately, you can attend Sachler (an American medical school in Tel Aviv - the studies are in Israel and the language, prices, preconditions, language, etc are all American). 2. The studies themselves - in Israel, you don't generally do an MD after completing a BA/BS; you go straight in and you get a degree after 7 years of study (hopefully!) With one notable exception - there is a new Israeli program (starting next year) affiliated with Tel Aviv University, which is geared toward those who have completed a BA in a related major who want to continue to medical school. 3. Language - while all doctors need to know a lot of English, you will require a working knowledge of Hebrew to attend an Israeli medical school. Of course, you will need to complete Ulpan (Hebrew language studies) as part of your preparatoy (mechina) studies. On the other hand, you will be exposed to a lot of Hebrew terms while in school that will make it easier later when you are working in the field... 4. Cost - medical school in Israeli is *way* cheaper than in America! And you can probably have a lot of it paid for by the Israeli government if you make aliya! 5. Variety - There are not as many schools to choose from in Israel as you have in America (although considering what a small country Israel is, it's quite a lot!). I know of the Hebrew University (Jerusalem), Ben Gurion University (Beer Sheva), Technion (Haifa), and Tel Aviv University programs. 6. Working in Israel - Obviously it'll be easier to get a job if you speak a fluent Hebrew but you don't necessarily need to go to school in Israel for that. Other than that, I don't think it makes much difference where you attend medical school (unless of course you go to Harvard or something!!) 7. Living in Israel - if you decide to attend school in America, you may realize that you'll need to work there for a few years afterwards to pay back your student loans (it's expensive!) and by then you may find that it's easier just to stay there, or something will come up that will make it difficult to leave (family is usually the biggest issue) - so if you REALLY want to live in Israel, you should come NOW and figure the rest out later :) Hope this helped!

Instead of fighting Israel, don't you think groups like Hamas and Hezbollah need to work with Israel

Instead of fighting Israel, don't you think groups like Hamas and Hezbollah need to work with Israel ?
Being realistic, Israel isn't going anywhere any time soon. And sure you can believe when Judgement day comes, the Jews in Israel will get what they deserve, I disagree with that, but if you chose to believe it, go for it. But don't you think groups like Hamas and Hezbollah should try and work with Israel to create some form of Palestinian state. You can believe what you like, but its not like Israel can be destroyed. And if the middle east was to go into a nuclear war, the whole region would be reduced to.........well.......... a desert. But even if these groups have lost their trust in Israel. Don't you think they should try and work with Israel, they can't beat them in regards to military, so instead of strapping bombs to themselves or firing rockets from civilian area's and making Israel close borders. Why don't they go and meet with Israel.

Why would terrorist ever try to get along with Israel?
2 :
they need to die thats what they need to do
3 :
Well you see, before 1948 when there was no such thing as Israel the whole area was Palestine. It was a fully functional country, it had government, schools, hospitals, the whole shebang. However after the holocaust Britain decided that a jewish homeland would be constructed right in the middle of Palestine. So that gave way for groups like Hamas to do what they do. I really believe that Israel wouldn't work with Hamas because they hate Palestinians. If you ever go to Palestine you'll find that it has a lot of hills, and the Israeli settlers who are the biggest terrorists of all force the Palestinians off the hills and make them live in tents below. Also they make their sewage run off the hill into the water supplies of the Palestinians and there will be regular attacks BY the settlers to the refugees. So you have to understand the total story of the Palestinians and why there are groups like Hamas before you say that they should work with Israel.
4 :
Ha mas and Hezbollah are complete terrorists. And if you can ignore history and negotiate with terrorists, then if we think like you we shall learn again the lesson you can't negotiate with terrorists. I notice we don't actually go to war anymore, we tip toe around a situation militarily, but if the shoe is ever on the other foot--the enemy will not tip toe, they will go for an all out victory and kill the infidels left who defy them.
5 :
Not only groups but the Palestinian people lost their trust in Israel long ago, that would never work. There is nothing to work with Israel for a Palestinian State. If Israel wants trust back then stop the occupation, move out the settlements and let the Palestinian people have a state. Cheers!
6 :
let me restate, plz: Instead of fighting groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, don't you think Israel need to work with them?
7 :
Ok, Jimmmmmy, that's it! You have just crossed the line. I will answer your question like a historianian: Would the Jews "work" with the Nazi Germans back in the 40ties? You are terrible you know that? How could you ever think something like that? hey, I have been once in Israel and I couldn't stand the atmosphere more than 6 hours. Jimmmmy ....have you ever been to this land? I don't know how to put this but something ....is not right over there. I don't know what exactly, but I could feel it in my mind. Please, stop doing this. It's me that's supposed to be the forum idiot. Are you trying to steal my fame and glory? Huh? Beat it Jimmmmmy boy. Take a hike .......or ................ GIVE ME LOTS OF THUMBS DOWN. I DESERVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM (Ronald McDonald, famous hamburger eating clown)
8 :
I agree with the Finnish girl. Would you as a Brit (not even an israeli) work with members of the Nazi party? I bet you jews still hold hostility towards the Germans lest their fathers and grandfathers or other family members were members of the Nazi party.
9 :
Yes... but they would'nt work correctly... XD
10 :
Yes this is why hamas agreed with having truce with Israel and we saw how Israel broke the truce by its continuous collective punishment of the Palestinians in Gaza as a response to violence from a small group of bastards who call themselves Palestinians. The problem with Israel is that if one person lanches a rocket on Israel, then all people have to be punished. Neither hamas nor anybody can stand this. We have the right to defend ourselves. Just like you are asking the Palestinian supporters to be more realistic, you should ask the Israelis as well. We can not control all groups. The Palestinians formed many groups. Within each group, there are other groups. How can you get all of them commited to truce or peace. You can get most of them commited but there will be small groups who prefer violence and riot. But this does not give Israel the right of punishing 1.5 million people for that. Do you think the Arabs should make a war on Israel for what the Israeli settlers did in Hebron in the past few days? I believe if it was the other way around ; i.e the Palestinians did that terrorism (or riot if you feel more comfortable calling it that), then Israel would start a real war on the west bank. So you too have to be realistic guys. As for Hizbollah I don't care. I dont see them doing anything against Israel. They just talk.
11 :
Any Arab leader of any group who makes peace with Israel will be killed a short while later.
12 :
Actually, I think they shouldn't exist. The reality is that, by definition, Hamas and Hezbollah stand for the destruction of Israel. It is their raison d'etre if you will. Giving up those goals and instead working for peace means that, essentially, those groups should cease to exist. What I would suggest is that the Palestinian Arabs form a group whose specific goals are to a) accept Israel for what it is b) make a lasting peace with it and c) form a democracy for their own people. Unfortunately, with the current facts on the ground that is to unlikely to happen soon or even in a generation. For Brett: Why are you getting all defensive? Did anyone here accuse you of being an anti semite? And for the record, your statements about the settlers forcing the Arabs off their land, making them live in tents in the valley below, and having their raw sewage flow in there is complete and total BS.
13 :
No I disagree. Hamas and Hexbo needs to be taken out not negotiated with. Let the Pals come up with a decent leadership then talk.
14 :
Oh yeah Israel is just like Nazi Germany. You know affirmative action for arabs sounds like like affirmative action for Jews in concentration camps. The ghettos in Germany sound a lot like Gaza where there are supermarkets and grocery stores all over. Media is so retarded, they show the bad parts of Gaza and never show the other Gaza. Hezbollah cannot listen to Israel. Both are enemies. Hezbollah is not here for the creation of Palestine. personally I believe they are here for Iranian imperialism to a certain extent. Hezbo allah means warriors of G-D bTW.
15 :
I dont know who Hamas or Hezbollah are but this is a thing I know; when I see the Palestinian jews I can see hate in their actions. Maybe these two folks you mention are not angels or anything but them jews are trying their best to make them ones. Steel

Why should Hezbollah and Hamas have to work with terrorists like israel?
