Can someone tell me what kind of electrical adaptor you need for use in Israel...with American chargers.

Can someone tell me what kind of electrical adaptor you need for use in Israel...with American chargers.?
Also, with Verizon Service, what do you need to do to have your android phone work in Israel?

you would need WA 14 adapter in Israel (("Type H" SI 32, Round Pins) they are 220 Volt users best place to purchase: Radio Shack as per your second question, I'd say LG vortex-cannot provide you with more info, see Google.
2 :
To answer the following sites explains it,(plus shows what the adapter looks like) they sell the adapters as well, I have never used them and I know you can buy the adaptors at most electrical stores as well http://www.adaptelec.com/wa14-travel-plug-adapter-for-israel-palestine-type-h-si-32-round-pins-p-10.html http://www.walkabouttravelgear.com/elect.htm
3 :
For plugging into the wall, you just need the right shaped plug. It's a few dollars for them & come in any of various international travel kits or in Israel at a hardware store. However, Israel uses 220, not 110 voltage. For that your charger needs to handle 220 volts. Most say on them 110-220. If your phone or electrical items doesn't handle 220, then you need a step down converter. it is NOT the same as a "travel converter" or any of the other names used for the different shaped plugs. Everyone will tell you they have them, & none of them will have them & they all will think that plugs are what you are talking about. Except Radio Shack. They have a step down converter, then you get with it the specific sized endpoint tip you need to fit into your electric device. The key is looking at the amps on your phone charger. The step down has to match or allow for as many amps as the charger requires. They'll show you in the store, it's simple. It's not that expensive (relatively speaking). I don't remember the full story with amps any more - but it's what I had trouble finding. If you electric item takes less amps you may be able to find what you need elsewhere as well. If you try to plug in an electoral item without the right step down converter or if it doesn't handle amps, everything says you'll risk frying it. That's for real. Just a quick side note - if you plug something in & it doesn't work, remember to try another outlet before giving up. Sometimes just the outlet in the wall is out! ................. Does Verizon offer international service where you can call from outside the country to another country? When they say the offer international they usually mean calling from the US to overseas. They probably don't offer calling overseas to the US or other countries. You can ask about your plan. If they don't offer it, what you need is a sim card inside your phone that will make calls from Israel at rates you want to pay. To put in such a sim, you're phone needs to be unlocked. Then you buy a sim card (either in advance through ebay or some other site) or buy one in Israel. It's easy to open the back of the phone & switch from the Verizon to the new sim card. Getting the phone "unlocked" is not easy. You'll have to google your phone & see what the process is. It's not a key, it's an electronic process. Any which way, for your phone to work in Israel it will need to operate on the frequencies used there. I don't remember which countries used which. There's 700, 900, 1800, 1900 -- stuff like that. The US uses one. Europe 2 of the others. Israel a couple of them not the same as the US. If your phone is a quad frequency it covers all the frequencies. If it's a tri, then it will likely cover what you need. If it's a regular old US only one -- you'll need a different phone. It's not expensive to rent a cell phone in Israel. You can get one at the airport when you come in. A company ATS is cheap & delivers to you once you're where you'll be staying. Make sure they set it to default to saving messages if you haven't listened fully to them. The default on some phones is autodelete them, & you can't get them back & you haven't fully listened. The phone company can change the default. Also have them set the phone's voice prompt instructions to English. For sim cards, I think "teleunion card" sells them. They've got great calling cards from the US which I use. If they don't (I don't' see them on the website) maybe they can tell you were/how to get them. They are a subcompany to IDT which is a US based company but it's customer call centers are in Israel, so they may know. That should save you the many hours of research I spent figuring all this out. I was going to be there a while & wanted to bring some computer equip beyond my laptop. It all worked well with the adapters & I was thrilled.
4 :
you can buy them very cheap in any israeli hardware shop.
5 :
Israel uses the standard of 230 Volts. Many electrical gadgets can support dual voltage, i.e. both the North American 120V and European standards. This may include cell phones. You MUST check with your phone's manual first. If it does support the standard, all you will need is something to adapt the North American style plug to the Israeli one. If not, then you will need an adaptor that supports voltage conversion. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mains_power_around_the_world I suggest you find a store that specializes in adaptors. I found that the ones in Israel were cheaper than the ones in Canada, where I live. (I needed one for my dual voltage shaver when I went some 16 years ago. It cost me 2 Shekels.) As with any cell phone service, if you plan on using it outside the country, you get some major roaming charges unless you can arrange a decent temp roaming plan. It may be cheaper to rent a cell phone there for your stay.

Is there any American companies in Israel that a US citizen can work for without Israeli citizenship

Is there any American companies in Israel that a US citizen can work for without Israeli citizenship?
I am living in Israel for over a year on extended tourist visas while I am in the process of applying for temporary residency. I would like to work, legally, is it possible?

If you are Jewish I think you can get citizenship. Other than that, sorry, I think you need to follow Israeli immigration laws. Foreign companies can't just bring foreign people here without visas, that I do know.
2 :
Their are plenty of American companies that do business in Israel. Often times they use locals, but I imagine they have positions for Americans as well. It all depends on your job experience and work skills. Search for jobs that you are qualified for.

Has Senator Obama stated Israel may strike Iran if sanctions fail

Has Senator Obama stated Israel may strike Iran if sanctions fail?
Presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) purportedly told House Democrats in a private meeting Tuesday that Israel may strike Iran if sanctions on the country fail to prevent development of nuclear technology. Obama told the caucus, according to an attendee, "Nobody said this to me directly but I get the feeling from my talks that if the sanctions don’t work Israel is going to strike Iran." Others in the room recall this as well. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/07/obama-to-house.html MORE: Now that the Bush administration is engaged in diplomatic efforts with Iran, many Israeli officials are worried the US is getting soft on Iran, prompting Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak to travel to the US this week to meet with Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley. Barak's office released a statement saying "a policy that consists of keeping all options on the table must be maintained." Another attendee at the meeting of House Democrats recalls Obama saying that the good news is that Obama got the sense that the Arab states understand just how destabilizing a nuclear Iran would be -- a "game changer," Obama said -- because they know Israel would probably strike and that would be bad for everyone.

How does a Russian living in Israel come to the USA and work on a tourist visa

How does a Russian living in Israel come to the USA and work on a tourist visa?
How does a Russian living in Israel come to the USA and work on a tourist visa? I have a friend who is traveling to the USA from Israel and would love to stay about a year and work here too. Are there any stipulations or regulations we need to know of? Also is an international driver's license valid anywhere in the United States? If anybody knows of anything helpful or who to contact it would be most appreciated. Thanks!!!
Immigration - 6 Answers

1 :
The person who wants to come to the USA must go to the American Consulate to get all the visa information. A person who has a tourist visa may not work here in the USA. As for the drivers license check with your state's DMV to get more info on the subject.
2 :
If your friend is coming on a tourist visa, then he is prohibited from working. Work is not what a tourist visa is for. Also, a tourist visa does not last a year. It usually only lasts 6 months.
3 :
No way! Enough violations of immigration laws and visa regulations to get him deported and barred. Tourist visas are only for tourism, vacations. He has to prove he has sufficient funds for all the "typical tourist" expenses: round-trip ticket, hotels, restaurant meals, sightseeing, and all the rest. He also has to prove he has such strong ties to his own country that he would be compelled to return home. Tourists are limited in their time here (typically 30 days max, with exceptions for Visa Waiver countries' citizens), and strictly forbidden to work. Only employers can apply for employment visas. Even if he had the education and expertise to qualify for a visa, nobody is hiring these days. The real unemployment rate is 22% and 31 million Americans are desperately searching for work. No jobs in the US for him. He does not even live in his own country now - no compelling ties there. Even if he has enough money for a vacation in the US, he probably will not qualify for and obtain a tourist visa.
4 :
Pick a visa ... your plans are not possible you cannot get a tourist visa for a year.. nor can you work on a tourist visa There are basically NINE ways that you can get a visa to live and work in the US: (1) Marriage (or engagement in anticipation of marriage) to a US citizen. (2) You have skills that are in short supply in the US e.g. scientific or medical training. A degree is normally a must. Or you have superior specialist skills with at least 12 years experience. (H visas) (3) You have an Employer who is willing to transfer you - but even the employer has to make a good case for you - so you have to be a manager unless you fall under category (2) above.(L visas) (4) You may get a Green card in the diversity lottery (UK citizens, except N.Ireland, are not generally eligible unless you, your spouse or parents were born abroad or held a different citizenship. (5)You own or buy business (does not get you permanent resident status i.e. no green card)You must be a national of a qualifying Treaty countries. The business must have a minimum value of around $150k (more the better) bearing in mind you will need somewhere to live and with any startup business you will need at least 2 years living money as back up. So a figure of $350k would be a nearer minimum (E-2 visas) (6)You are an "investor" i.e. you have at least US $1m in assets to bring with you. half of that in a few areas. And your background will be investigated to the hilt. (EB-5 visas) (7)You have a close relative (mother, father, brother, sister and no further) who is an US citizen who would sponsor you, approx time this take 2-12 years? (8.The R1 visa is available to foreign members of religious denominations, having bona fide non-profit religious organizations in the U.S., for entering the U.S. to carry on the activities of a minister or religious worker as a profession, occupation or vocation (9)THE UNUSUAL You are in a position to claim refugee status/political asylum. or You get a member of Congress to sponsor a private bill with legislation that applies just to you. The S visa issued to persons who assist US law enforcement to investigate and prosecute crimes and terrorist activities such as money laundering and organized crime Recruitment agent will not take you seriously if you are not already in the US. Writing for jobs is really a waste of time; likewise US employers have no idea what foreign qualification are or mean (except Degrees) it may pay you to get your qualification translated into a US equivalent, there are Companies that do this (www.wes.org) .. But if you are getting a visa under (2) above then you need a job offer before you can get the visa. Your Employer will be your sponsor this will cost them upward of $5k. So you can see you have to be offering something really special to get considered They may also have to prove to the Dept of labor that there is no American who can do the job if the position is to be permanent ©
5 :
they can't. no one who come into the US can work on a tourist visa. they might be able to find an employer willing to sponsor them and file papers, depending on their education, experience and language skills. but that would take a while, if it happens at all. there are skilled worker petitions, h1bs, which is defined as work requiring a university degree or its equivalent in training and experience.
6 :
Well... legally he is not allowed to work, but if he gets a job - and he surely would be able to find some cash job in New York/Brooklyn - he may work! There are a lot of people who don't have work permit and work, even pay taxes and file for refund! I am serious. You friend will be OK. As far as i understand your friend doesn't expect to be hired as a white collar worker. Right? then he should be fine.

They should work. Israel has the "type C" adapter all around, so you shouldn't have much to worry. However, that applies for most of Europe: Make sure that when you say "Europe", you don't mean another country in Europe that deviates from the norm.
2 :
UK adaptors are different. for the rest of europe, it depends. if you'r appliances have only two pins, then it'll work

No.

It’s a good question, If we talks about the Gods work, first we have to check what good says in the holy books of Quran and Bible: 005.021 SHAKIR: O my people! enter the holy land which Allah ( GOD ) has prescribed for you and turn not on your backs for then you will turn back losers. 005.020 YUSUFALI: Remember Moses said to his people: "O my people! Call in remembrance the favour of Allah ( GOD ) unto you, when He produced prophets among you, made you kings, and gave you what He had not given to any other among the peoples . So, reading carefully the Quran, its talk about this land that given to the Jews. Jesus was a Jew, so according to the Christianity, this land should be given to the Jew’s, that should built the 3rd temple at Jerusalem. About the Jews… I don’t really know, but if the God, and Allah let the Jews take this land from the Muslims, its might has it point ?
3 :
They believe they are doing so. But if Gods work is oppressing and occupying the Palestinian people, than they are severely misinformed. Israel is very wrong in their actions and the Jews/Zionists have no right to do what they are doing to the Palestinians (who were there first).

USA is big and has varying climates and waters, so I don't get it. Sounds like a Palestinian propaganda to me. They want to say that even the water of the Zionists is evil and treacherous (and has special microbes in it that attack products manufactured by "goyim" (it goes without saying that these microbes were developed by the Mossad)). But it isn't a very successful propaganda, because the Zionists benefit from it (you'll have to buy their Shampoo!).
2 :
Water is water. There are not nationalities affixed to waters. However, there may be issues with bringing in a tube or bottle of shampoo that makes it much easier to purchase the shampoo while inside Israel rather then taking it through customs into Israel.

Could 9-11 have been the work of Israel, like they did with the Lavon affair

Could 9-11 have been the work of Israel, like they did with the Lavon affair?
The lavon affair is like decades before i even hatched onto this violent planet. The plan was for the Israelis to create a false flag operations by attacking targets inside Egypt and theirby blaming the Arabs and removing any Western Support to them. In 1967 they alleged to have sunk a US warship and attemped to blame it on the Arabs again. So could 9-11 have been another handi-work of the infamous Israeli mossad? I mean they are really really good? I mean all credit to them they tracked down Nazis all the way in Latin America and bought them home for Justice! So could 9-11 have been done by them? ALso what exactly do we have to implicate UBL apart from a video tape which could have been doctored very easily? Suprise suprise the hue of being called "Anti-semetism" just because i alluded to fact in history. Does this embrass the blind, fervent Pro Israel supporters that their country (Israel) is not always made out of milk and butter like they have been told?

Do you speak Hebrew? That would help a great deal. You will probably be able to get a job in Tel Aviv. You might find work in a hotel in Eilat. Israel is credentialism crazy, so you have a shot with your degrees. Have you visited Israel before? I recommend it. Many Americans who make aliyah who have never been to Israel end up on the first plane back after they see how Israelis behave. It's a rough place even in peaceful times. Get your mind right and expect the unexpected. Also, don't get trapped by an Israeli girl who would like a green card. If you go on a tourist visa, no one will hire you in your field.

The laws of the Sabbath may be suspended to provide any necessary medical care to a critically ill individual or to an individual in the likelihood of danger to life. http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/pikuach_nefesh.html From the same source. In Judaism, human life is essential and so pikuach nefesh, the obligation to save a life in jeopardy, is considered a major value to uphold. This obligation applies to both an immediate threat and a less grave danger that has the potential of becoming serious. Pikuach nefesh is derived from the biblical verse, “Neither shall you stand by the blood of your neighbor” (Lev. 19:16). According to pikuach nefesh a person must do everything in their power to save the life of another, even donate bodily organs. Ovaday Yosef, the former Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, ruled that one may donate an organ to a person in critical need, so long as it does not put the donor’s life at risk.
2 :
to save lives you're allowed.
3 :
Shay P is correct. Judaism places great value on Human life - to the extent that there is a saying in the Talmud that "one who saves another's life is as if s/he has saved the whole world." Specifically regarding saving lives on Shabbat, the logic is simple - as stated in the Talmud, "It is worth violating one Shabbat in order to keep many Sabbaths" = It is worth it for the nurse to violate his/her shabbat in order to give the person s/he saves the opportunity to fulfill many shabbats for the rest of their life. Tequila is also correct. "It's not a matter of "justifying" anything. Behind the mitzva (commandment) system is the understanding "veChai bahem"/ "And you shall LIVE by them" (the commandments). In other words, G-d commanded Jews to LIVE in accordance with His laws."
4 :
Hi. It's not a matter of "justifying" anything. Behind the mitzva (commandment) system is the understanding "veChai bahem"/ "And live by them" (the commandments). In other words, G-d commanded Jews to live in accordance with His laws. The Torah is a very functional framework for living a decent life. (The goal is not to wind up tied up in knots or, G-d forbid, dead.) Among the hospitals in Israel, there are a few that are run according to Jewish law, such as Shaarei Tzedek Hospital http://www.szmc.org.il/Eng/Index.asp?CategoryID=198&ArticleID=885&SearchParam=sabbathobservance http://www.szmc.org.il/Eng/Index.asp?CategoryID=198&ArticleID=969 in Jerusalem and Laniado in Netanya. http://www.laniado.org.il/Eng/Index.asp I am acquainted with a number of nurses and doctors in Jerusalem that scrupulously keep the Sabbath. They prefer to work at institutions that facilitate keeping the Torah laws while on duty. Over the years, many technological advances have contributed to the ease with which professional medical personnel can safeguard their patients' health and Torah commandments simultaneously. http://www.hashkafah.com/grama-Switch-Halachic-Novelties-t23425.html Among the technologies instituted in religious Israeli hospitals: a nurse call system for Shabbat, special telephones for essential Shabbat use by medical personnel, automatic hot water urns for institutional use, and elevator controls for Shabbat use in multistory buildings. http://www.scienceandhalacha.org/areas.shtml Some also use approved disappearing ink pens so that info. that must be written on Shabbat in a patient's chart becomes temporary and can be rewritten Saturday night after sundown.
5 :
They asked Jesus the same question. The answer is still true. It is not unholy to do good on the Sabbath.
6 :
Preservation of life/helping the sick trumps all other laws. Period!
7 :
Saving a human life takes precedence over any other commandment. There is nothing they need justify. All the best.
8 :
They are involved in life-saving work, like doctors. .
9 :
Jewish Orthodox Nurses and doctors work Friday nights and Saturdays with full rabbinical endorsement, since saving human life precedes Sabbath observance; it is in the Torah.

no as the sirius satelite is stationary above america Jenny V have a look at this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geostationary_orbit

Actually Warrick is not the stupid one; he is correct, the satellites for both Sirius and XM are in a Geosynchronous orbit. They stay in the same spot over the earth at all times. Otherwise you WOULD be able to hear Sirius in Israel. But you can't. The good news is there is a service called WorldSpace that (according to their coverage map) covers Israel. Check it out. -a guy named duh
3 :
The above are correct; you cannot receive the satellite signal outside of North America. However, you can stream the internet radio from anywhere in the world. And if you have the Stiletto 100 radio, you can stream the internet radio via wifi.
4 :
No Sirius is only for the US And Canada ( at this time ) Check out worldspace they will have programming for you http://www.worldspace.com

Will I be able to work in Israel and the United States

Will I be able to work in Israel and the United States?
I am an 18 year old Arab-American born in Jerusalem, currently in the US after spending all my life in Jerusalem. I am about to decide what career path to take, I want something that will always leave me the option of going back to Israel and having a job in what I learned. I was thinking Radiation Therapy or Environmental Engineering. I am good with all sciences, and love them all equally, I have no interest in any subject more than others, I just know I am not a literature person. Please take your time talking about this subject if you have useful information for me. Thanks, Isa.

Hi Isa, Well, the U.S. really needs scientists right now -- so it sounds to me like you'd be successful in radiation therapy OR engineering. Maybe you should take a variety of science courses before choosing a major and see which ones interest you the most. I'm American but I worked two years in Tel Aviv, so I think I can say that with a science major you'll be able to find a job in either country (and in many others as well!) Study hard, do your best, and the right choices will make themselves clear to you as you learn more and more about what you enjoy most. Behatzlaha (sorry, I don't know how to say it in Arabic)!

Since all of Israels fancy civilized methods to free Gilad Shalit didn't work. Should Israel try this

Since all of Israels fancy civilized methods to free Gilad Shalit didn't work. Should Israel try this?
Israel should treat their Hamas prisoners the same way Gilad Shalit is treated by Hamas Since Gilad Shalit isn't allowed visits from his family. The Hamas prisoners in Israeli Jails should also not be allowed visits from their families. Since their is no proof that Gilad Shalit is allowed to watch TV or read newspapers or study for a college degree in jail. The Hamas prisoners in Israeli Jails should also not be allowed to watch TV or read newspapers or study for a college degree in jail. Since Gilad Shalit isn't allowed to make or receive Phone Calls. The Hamas prisoners in Israeli Jails should also not be allowed to make or receive phone calls.

Or both sides can agree to release all prisoners and not take any more. But your idea is that of a typical Zionist, always ignoring the possibility of peace.
2 :
No,Free prisoners from both sides as it is agreed ,and stop using Gilad Shalit as a political case used by corrupted Israeli politicians. It has done before so many times in Israel and through all wars back in history. Why not in Shalit case? It is because Shalit case is been used between corrupted Israeli political leaders to gain on Shalit"s ,and other prisoners from the other side, suffering. The only one to plaim is the Israeli government. Hamas does not want to keep Shalit,it is obvious that they want to swap him for their prisoners.Again it is done in all wars through history, but why the Israeli corrupted politicians using Shalits suffering to gain politically. There should be a public inquiry about it.
3 :
YES !!!!!!! The only way to fight against Terrorists is to show strength. If Israel starts to treat their Hamas prisoners the same way Gilad Shalit is treated by Hamas this will show strength.

Is it hard to find jobs in Israel even if you're a professional

Is it hard to find jobs in Israel even if you're a professional?
Is it hard for new Jewish immigrants to find work in Israel even if they have advanced degrees? I would like to live in Israel someday but the main thing I'm thinking about is not being able to find a steady position even if I have a good degree, I'm in college now and learning Hebrew.

it is if you are Christian or Muslim.

You have to remember that Israel has been managing without you up to now. If you are prepared to take what's going, at least in the first instance, you'll be ok. Just remember it's a privilege to live here that we have not had for 2000 years.

Israel and Turkey trade often and share in military exercises to fight terror. The Turkish government knows what happened and they are still working with Israel.

The very fact they were able to forgive and forget says alot, Israel has a good Arab ally, they shouldn't jeapirdize that again
2 :
Sounds like your Hebrew is better than your English. Israel shot itself in the foot...Turkey's canceling military exercises with Israel, countries have booted their spying zionist ambassadors, and Israel could be at war with NATO... stupid, stupid move!
3 :
This was an isolated incident; if Israel really wanted to hurt Turkey in any way, then there would have been more cases of violence besides on 1 out of the 6 boats that were there. I agree that Israel could have avoided killing those men, however, you cannot put your hands on a soldier and expect them to not defend themselves. What I think is that those activists on the boat are so passionate about the Gaza situation that they were actually being violent as a way of protest. Surely Turkey knows this. Also, in times of war, a country can search ships off its waters even if they are in international territory. Israel has caught many ships harboring very descructive materials, there are groups such as Hamas that's sole purpose is the dissolution of any Jewish state. I think this is getting blown out of proportion to arouse further mistrust and/or hatred for the state of Israel.
4 :
The ship was full of "al-Qaeda" types, included a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, 2 German politicians, 17 members of parliament from Bulgaria Ireland, Israel and Sweden, and an 85 year old holocaust survivor. Professor Norman Baech, a German international law expert and former member of the German parliament was on the Mavi Marmara. I don't think he would have gone if it was illegal.
5 :
You are wrong, Turkish Government is at the point of break relations with Israel. Where did you find that info ? The Terrorist State of Israel is specialist in manipulate the news, so watch out. Instead read this Forensic Report of victims of the Israeli act of terrorism: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6536MF20100604

Would it be best to complete all schooling in the U.S. before moving to Israel or not

Would it be best to complete all schooling in the U.S. before moving to Israel or not?
I want to become a doctor and I'd also like to live and work in Israel eventually, but would it be better for me to complete all of my schooling and residency in the U.S., or should I do some of it in Israel? Would either way give me a better chance at securing a position in my field once I move to Israel?

Come to Israel for a visit, and you can visit us here at The Technion (Medical School) and see our Health Care Services and decide then. Work in the Health Care Profession is not easy, but without persons such yourself we could not survive!
2 :
i can answer personalyy-im going to be a dr of psychology, i am doing my shooling-at least until my masters, then prob my phd online-to move to israel. but this is bc it is extramely difficult to get a psychology degree in israel. i think though that if you do not know the language fluently including the techincal terms you might have a hard time
3 :
Israel will not offer the same opportunity for learning the US will. Due simply to size. what ever kind of training you can get there you can get in multiple locations in America. What field do you intend. If simple family medicine, it won't matter much, but your residency would probably need to be on the people you want to treat in their sitting. How many credits do you lose in transfer would be my first question.
4 :
There are pros and cons in both options. I would sugest to take a pilot trip and talk to prospective Universities and possible places of work to get a better picture. However one big good thing for you. Israel at the moment expiriencing shortage of medical doctors and it is a matter of policy to encourage people to study medicine and to encourage trained Jewish doctors from diaspora to make aliya. If you make aliya as a doctor I believe they will assist with job search and language studies. So contact your nearest Jewish agency responcible for aliya and ask your questions.
5 :
Ronny R has no idea what he is talking about... he even said "Israelians"! Never heard of those people before... I don't really have a knowledgeable answer to this question because I don't know what it takes to be a doctor in Israel. But I think you could choose to finish your education in the US or Israel and you would be fine. In Israel they know that an education in the US is very good, and they know an Israeli education is good too. So you should choose whichever one would make you the happiest. Good luck! Shalom, Salaam
6 :
There are many factors in a decision like that... Let me see if I can list a few of the biggies: 1. Previous education - to be accepted to medical school in Israel, you must either have a matriculation certificate from an Israeli high school or you will be required to spend a year in preparatory school (mechina) before beginning your studies. Alternately, you can attend Sachler (an American medical school in Tel Aviv - the studies are in Israel and the language, prices, preconditions, language, etc are all American). 2. The studies themselves - in Israel, you don't generally do an MD after completing a BA/BS; you go straight in and you get a degree after 7 years of study (hopefully!) With one notable exception - there is a new Israeli program (starting next year) affiliated with Tel Aviv University, which is geared toward those who have completed a BA in a related major who want to continue to medical school. 3. Language - while all doctors need to know a lot of English, you will require a working knowledge of Hebrew to attend an Israeli medical school. Of course, you will need to complete Ulpan (Hebrew language studies) as part of your preparatoy (mechina) studies. On the other hand, you will be exposed to a lot of Hebrew terms while in school that will make it easier later when you are working in the field... 4. Cost - medical school in Israeli is *way* cheaper than in America! And you can probably have a lot of it paid for by the Israeli government if you make aliya! 5. Variety - There are not as many schools to choose from in Israel as you have in America (although considering what a small country Israel is, it's quite a lot!). I know of the Hebrew University (Jerusalem), Ben Gurion University (Beer Sheva), Technion (Haifa), and Tel Aviv University programs. 6. Working in Israel - Obviously it'll be easier to get a job if you speak a fluent Hebrew but you don't necessarily need to go to school in Israel for that. Other than that, I don't think it makes much difference where you attend medical school (unless of course you go to Harvard or something!!) 7. Living in Israel - if you decide to attend school in America, you may realize that you'll need to work there for a few years afterwards to pay back your student loans (it's expensive!) and by then you may find that it's easier just to stay there, or something will come up that will make it difficult to leave (family is usually the biggest issue) - so if you REALLY want to live in Israel, you should come NOW and figure the rest out later :) Hope this helped!
7 :
cant really answer you. but i have heard they have a good program in bar ilan college..its somewhere near tel aviv. i knew someone that went there..... good luck! and good for you that you want to move to israel...im planning on it eventually!

Instead of fighting Israel, don't you think groups like Hamas and Hezbollah need to work with Israel

Instead of fighting Israel, don't you think groups like Hamas and Hezbollah need to work with Israel ?
Being realistic, Israel isn't going anywhere any time soon. And sure you can believe when Judgement day comes, the Jews in Israel will get what they deserve, I disagree with that, but if you chose to believe it, go for it. But don't you think groups like Hamas and Hezbollah should try and work with Israel to create some form of Palestinian state. You can believe what you like, but its not like Israel can be destroyed. And if the middle east was to go into a nuclear war, the whole region would be reduced to.........well.......... a desert. But even if these groups have lost their trust in Israel. Don't you think they should try and work with Israel, they can't beat them in regards to military, so instead of strapping bombs to themselves or firing rockets from civilian area's and making Israel close borders. Why don't they go and meet with Israel.

Why would terrorist ever try to get along with Israel?
2 :
they need to die thats what they need to do
3 :
Well you see, before 1948 when there was no such thing as Israel the whole area was Palestine. It was a fully functional country, it had government, schools, hospitals, the whole shebang. However after the holocaust Britain decided that a jewish homeland would be constructed right in the middle of Palestine. So that gave way for groups like Hamas to do what they do. I really believe that Israel wouldn't work with Hamas because they hate Palestinians. If you ever go to Palestine you'll find that it has a lot of hills, and the Israeli settlers who are the biggest terrorists of all force the Palestinians off the hills and make them live in tents below. Also they make their sewage run off the hill into the water supplies of the Palestinians and there will be regular attacks BY the settlers to the refugees. So you have to understand the total story of the Palestinians and why there are groups like Hamas before you say that they should work with Israel.
4 :
Ha mas and Hezbollah are complete terrorists. And if you can ignore history and negotiate with terrorists, then if we think like you we shall learn again the lesson you can't negotiate with terrorists. I notice we don't actually go to war anymore, we tip toe around a situation militarily, but if the shoe is ever on the other foot--the enemy will not tip toe, they will go for an all out victory and kill the infidels left who defy them.
5 :
Not only groups but the Palestinian people lost their trust in Israel long ago, that would never work. There is nothing to work with Israel for a Palestinian State. If Israel wants trust back then stop the occupation, move out the settlements and let the Palestinian people have a state. Cheers!
6 :
let me restate, plz: Instead of fighting groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, don't you think Israel need to work with them?
7 :
Ok, Jimmmmmy, that's it! You have just crossed the line. I will answer your question like a historianian: Would the Jews "work" with the Nazi Germans back in the 40ties? You are terrible you know that? How could you ever think something like that? hey, I have been once in Israel and I couldn't stand the atmosphere more than 6 hours. Jimmmmy ....have you ever been to this land? I don't know how to put this but something ....is not right over there. I don't know what exactly, but I could feel it in my mind. Please, stop doing this. It's me that's supposed to be the forum idiot. Are you trying to steal my fame and glory? Huh? Beat it Jimmmmmy boy. Take a hike .......or ................ GIVE ME LOTS OF THUMBS DOWN. I DESERVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM (Ronald McDonald, famous hamburger eating clown)
8 :
I agree with the Finnish girl. Would you as a Brit (not even an israeli) work with members of the Nazi party? I bet you jews still hold hostility towards the Germans lest their fathers and grandfathers or other family members were members of the Nazi party.
9 :
Yes... but they would'nt work correctly... XD
10 :
Yes this is why hamas agreed with having truce with Israel and we saw how Israel broke the truce by its continuous collective punishment of the Palestinians in Gaza as a response to violence from a small group of bastards who call themselves Palestinians. The problem with Israel is that if one person lanches a rocket on Israel, then all people have to be punished. Neither hamas nor anybody can stand this. We have the right to defend ourselves. Just like you are asking the Palestinian supporters to be more realistic, you should ask the Israelis as well. We can not control all groups. The Palestinians formed many groups. Within each group, there are other groups. How can you get all of them commited to truce or peace. You can get most of them commited but there will be small groups who prefer violence and riot. But this does not give Israel the right of punishing 1.5 million people for that. Do you think the Arabs should make a war on Israel for what the Israeli settlers did in Hebron in the past few days? I believe if it was the other way around ; i.e the Palestinians did that terrorism (or riot if you feel more comfortable calling it that), then Israel would start a real war on the west bank. So you too have to be realistic guys. As for Hizbollah I don't care. I dont see them doing anything against Israel. They just talk.
11 :
Any Arab leader of any group who makes peace with Israel will be killed a short while later.
12 :
Actually, I think they shouldn't exist. The reality is that, by definition, Hamas and Hezbollah stand for the destruction of Israel. It is their raison d'etre if you will. Giving up those goals and instead working for peace means that, essentially, those groups should cease to exist. What I would suggest is that the Palestinian Arabs form a group whose specific goals are to a) accept Israel for what it is b) make a lasting peace with it and c) form a democracy for their own people. Unfortunately, with the current facts on the ground that is to unlikely to happen soon or even in a generation. For Brett: Why are you getting all defensive? Did anyone here accuse you of being an anti semite? And for the record, your statements about the settlers forcing the Arabs off their land, making them live in tents in the valley below, and having their raw sewage flow in there is complete and total BS.
13 :
No I disagree. Hamas and Hexbo needs to be taken out not negotiated with. Let the Pals come up with a decent leadership then talk.
14 :
Oh yeah Israel is just like Nazi Germany. You know affirmative action for arabs sounds like like affirmative action for Jews in concentration camps. The ghettos in Germany sound a lot like Gaza where there are supermarkets and grocery stores all over. Media is so retarded, they show the bad parts of Gaza and never show the other Gaza. Hezbollah cannot listen to Israel. Both are enemies. Hezbollah is not here for the creation of Palestine. personally I believe they are here for Iranian imperialism to a certain extent. Hezbo allah means warriors of G-D bTW.
15 :
I dont know who Hamas or Hezbollah are but this is a thing I know; when I see the Palestinian jews I can see hate in their actions. Maybe these two folks you mention are not angels or anything but them jews are trying their best to make them ones. Steel

Israel is a religiously tolerant society. It does NOT persecute anyone based on religion. IF you are proselytizing Christian you will probably get a very cold reception. Jewish people, me included, generally just want to be left alone to worship our own way. You worship your way we worship ours. Expense of living: Varies as to where you live and what you want. Living in Tel Aviv is very expensive, on par with new york/San Diego. Taxes in Israel are VERY high. Jobs. Israel has a fast growing and very strong IT sector and is always looking for talented people. Being multilingual will of course also help

NTSC/PAL have nothing to do with your problem. NTSC is PS3's boght in America. You have to have a NTSC system to play NTSC games. PAL is for EUROPE. You just have to call Sony and ask if the online service is provided in the region you are traveling in. You can find there phone number on the Sony style website. You also have to make sure that the power they supply in Isrea uses the same voltage as here or else you will burn your PS3. You also need to make sure about the power outlet and see if your wire fits. You might have to buy a converter. Hope this helps!

Israel is indeed hot and humid. I am afraid your hair will indeed turn frizzy. You should put it up, wear a hat, or use one of those anti-frizz solutions...
2 :
To answer you, yes Israel is very humid, especially in the center of the country.Summer is hot in Israel! We usually speak of the heat in terms of temperature + humidity, not only temperature. As for weather conditions: Temperature in Tel Aviv is usually between 24 to 35 Degrees centigrade which are 75 to 95 Degrees Fahrenheit. Jerusalen and the Golan Heights are approx. 3 degrees centigrade colder (5.5 Degrees Fahrenheit), and Eilat is usually 3 degrees centigrade warmer. Keep in mind that in very hot days, which we usually get during the month of August, the temperature in Tel-aviv may rise to 42 degrees centigrade which are 108 degrees Fahrenheit mixed with 95% humidity. In Jerusalem those days are as hot, but without the humidity, and in Eilat temperature may even alimb up to 50 degrees (122 Fahrenheit), but without the humidity. What to Wear: Short, light, no sleeve, anything you can think of to cope with this mad summer. With regards to your hair, treat it as you would back home.
3 :
cities which lye near the beach are humid. cities which are further inside are hotter but not humid, and the desert is very dry. i think the weather in new york at summer is worse than in israel.

work in Israel?
does anybody know of a workers union, or group in Israel, that I can join so I can live over there?

the workers' union doesnt help moving into israel. if you're jewish, you can make aliyah to israel. if not, then like in any other country, you need to have a job offer in israel that cannot be filled by a local and then you will get a temporary working visa.
2 :
If you like to suffer why don't you just take a bath in lye. Then again latering one's body is probably more soothing than living in Israel.

Go to the Israeli consulate. They'll tell you exactly what to do. It's definitely possible. Oh... and have a good time in Israel, it's amazing over there.
2 :
Perhaps a waiter? In touristy areas a native english speaker may be in demand.
3 :
you need to be paid under the table if you don't want a visa. i cleaned and babysat.
4 :
Hmmm. I don't know. Depends on your type of occupation. Manual labor is maxed out by Arabs, Africans, and other uneducated people, so its all down to your educational level. Have fun trying it out.

You can live and work in Israel whatever your religion. 30% of Israeli citizens are not Jewish - it is a secular democracy. Get in touch with the Israeli embassy in whichever country you live in, and they will advise you. Best of luck with it; I've lived in Israel and it is amazing there!
2 :
Apply in a company in Israel since aliens are welcomed thereat. When accepted, request the company to send the contract of employment and use this to apply for a working visa at the Israeli Embassy.

Is there a program that would allow me to work with orphans in Israel

Is there a program that would allow me to work with orphans in Israel?
I am thinking about spending a year in Israel and really want to do community service. However, I really do need some form of income so I can survive. My first choice would be some sort of orphanage. I can't really afford to pay thousands of dollars to be a part of some special organization. Is there anykind of program that wouldn't charge me but set me up with a job and connect me with an orphanage I can help out at?

I'm sure that there is something you can do. Unfortunately, I know of nothing personally; however, I would contact an Israeli diplomatic mission and see if they know of anything. Another idea is the Kibbutz system. It might be anachronistic, but at one point they were the orphanages of Israel. I don't think they serve that purpose anymore; however, who knows, one might still act as one.

The following is one of the most prominent websites for volunteer work in Israel. If you are able to use the site in Hebrew, you would be able to post a request for your desired opportunity. The English version of the site caters well to prospective volunteers living abroad, and also has volunteer opportunities abroad: http://www.ivolunteer.org.il/eng/ Another site that may be helpful and might raise your curiosity is: "Shatil". This organization's main purpose is "Empowerment and Training Center for Social Change Organizations in Israel". Volunteer work in Israel/Palestine

Volunteer work in Israel/Palestine?
I'm thinking of visiting Israel/Palestine during the coming summer and trying to find volunteer work that I can do there for about 2-3 weeks. However, it seems that this process has become a lot harder than I originally thought, as I am only 17. Any recommendations for volunteer work I can do as a high school student? Thank you.

For 2-3 weeks, you better take your time and think of having a nice tour instead of working
2 :
Why volunteer? just curious but why spend your entire time on a great trip working for no income? anyways if you want volunteer work you could always be an aide at an hospital or nursing home.
3 :
Volunteer work is not the issue, the issue is with which side you will volunteer.
4 :
here you go: http://www.kibbutzvolunteer.com/
5 :
I think that the Magen David Adom takes in volunteers that age; though, don't quote me on this. I know they are willing to take me in, but I'm 20 and a college student. Basically, it might be hard for you because it's difficult to travel there as a high school student, and basically live on your own, even if it's for a short amount of time. At least, it's perceived that way by many. Also, while many speak English, it's preferable obviously to speak Hebrew, and if you can't research opportunities in that language then it's obviously harder to find some. What I would do is contact any family or friends you might have there, if you are lucky enough, and see if they know of any opportunities that could be taken advantage of. Or, contact a synagogue, or certain churches, as they probably are aware of things and might have some connections.

contact imigration, he has to apply for it from his country and get proper papers to leave the counrty.
2 :
Get him a J-1 visa. Check with the INS. A local 5 star hotel here gets people from Europe for a 1 year stay all the time.
3 :
why not just hire someone from the usa?
4 :
Contact the USCIS Office of Business Liaison, which is the office that helps employers like you through the process of hiring foreign workers. Work visas can be temporary such as H1/H2 (note though that quota for H1 is already filled till 2008) or employment immigration which leads to permanent residency but often requires Department of Labor certification (read: significantly longer processing time -- while H1B can be fastracked to 1-2 months, employment immigration can taken anywhere from 2-5 years depending on backlog of the state both at DOL and USCIS)

What is the best the best third langauge to know in Israel

What is the best the best third langauge to know in Israel?
Besides Hebrew and English, what is the best third language to know if you're planning to live and work in Israel? My native language is English and I take Hebrew courses in school.

Probably French. When 250,000 Algerian jews had to be evacuated from Algeria in 1958 the French were very accommodating. I expect they are still the best bet for the occupation settlers when the big crunch hits.
2 :
Arabic would be helpful for you to know. Another language would be Russian there are plenty of Russians in Israel from what I heard it is closer to 800,000 Russian speaking people.
3 :
Arabic or Russian, depending on your personal interests and goals.
4 :
The first best is English. The second best is Hebrew. The third best is Arabic.
5 :
Arabic of course.
6 :
Currently, there are two official languages in Israel; Hebrew and Arabic. The status of English is semi-official. And here are some more that are widely used. Non-official languages widely spoken in Israel Because Israel is a multi-cultural society, many other languages are known by large sectors of the population. The main ones are as follows: Russian - Russian is by far the most widely spoken non-official language in Israel, not taking English into account. As many as 16% of Israelis are fluent in Russian after mass immigration from the USSR and its successor states in the 1970s, 1990s and 2000s. The government and businesses often provide information in Russian, and it is semi-official in some areas. Amharic is spoken by most of Israel's 100,000 Ethiopian Jews, most of whom arrived in two massive operations transporting tens of thousands of Ethiopian Jews from Ethiopia to Israel (1984 and 1991). Amharic is often used in government announcements and publications. Romanian - it is estimated that there are several hundred thousand immigrants from Romania and their descendants in Israel. As such, Romanian is often encountered among this group. Yiddish - the Ashkenazi Jewish language and the second most widely spoken Jewish language, is a variant of German, mixed with Hebrew. It was banned in Israel's early statehood days, but is making a cultural revival in the 21st century. It is still regularly used in some ultra-Orthodox Ashkenazi communities. However, critics say that it is dying with the old generations of Ashkenazi Jews. Today there is a state-supported authority for preserving the Yiddish culture. Ladino - the Sephardi Jewish language and the third most widely spoken Jewish language, it is a variant of medieval Spanish, intermixed with Hebrew. It is spoken by many Sephardi Jews. Today there is a state-supported authority for preserving the Ladino culture. Polish - no longer very common, this language was spoken by the large aliyah from Poland. Today, it is somewhat common in Polish moshavei ovdim, created during the 1940s and 1950s. Ukrainian - while most Ukrainian Jews prefer to speak Russian, there is a large segment of Ukrainian speakers. Spanish - spoken by Jews from Argentina and other olim from other Spanish-speaking countries, and some Sephardi groups. It is not restricted to Sephardim, as most Argentinian Jews are actually Ashkenazim. Spanish has been recently introduced to several schools' curricula instead of French. A 1978 notice on the Temple Mount in Hebrew, English, and FrenchFrench - spoken by many Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian Jews, either as native or second language of the francised Maghreb Jews, and by the increasing number of new immigrants from France and other French speaking countries. Also spoken by foreign workers from western Africa. For many years it used to be the diplomatic language of Israel, and it is still taught in many Israeli schools. The French embassy's Institut français supports French studies in Israeli schools. Italian - spoken mainly by many Italian Jews. Also, many Jews from Libya (a former Italian colony) speak Italian as primary or second language. Persian - spoken by many former Jewish immigrants from Iran and their children. Kayla and Qwara - the languages of the Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jewry). Also spoken by some Beta Israel is Amharic. Chinese, Tagalog and Thai - while spoken by a negligible amount of Israeli Jews, Chinese, Tagalog and Thai are making a headway in Israeli society in the 21st century, due to an influx of legal and illegal non-Jewish immigrants from China, The Philippines and Thailand. It is estimated that there are 180,000 such illegal immigrants.[citation needed] Many (though mostly Vietnamese) legally entered the country when Israel opened their doors to "boat people" from war-torn Southeast Asia in the 1970s.[citation needed] Marathi - Because many Jews from the west coast of India, who were Marathi-speaking, left for Israel after its formation
7 :
1st, learn Hebrew very well. Don't underestimate the language and its nuances. Then, go for a 3rd language, but it depends on where you'll be working. If it is in tourism, French is a good option since most Europeans have some background in French. Governmental work....medicine, social services, etc... Then Russian is a good option.
8 :
Israel has two official languauges- Hebrew and Arabic. Arabic is useful as most Arab israelis speak it.
9 :
arabic
10 :
Arabic. Many people in Israel speak it; Arabic is a beautiful language, and it is similar to Hebrew, as both are semitic languages. There are many Russian immigrants in Israel, but personally I would never go near THAT language... lol... It sounds so cumbersome!!!
11 :
Russian, as it's my native tongue. And don't imitate my accent please.
12 :
Russian or arabic
13 :
You don't really need one besides those two, but Russian will give you a social edge as many of your co-workers will likely be Russian immigrants (or their children). With Hebrew and English you'll be in perfect shape, because almost all Russians speak one of the two anyway (especially the younger generation), but speaking Russian also might help you communicate with those not as skillful with languages as you are. EDIT: Arabic would be interesting to know, and would help if you plan to interact with a lot of Israeli Arabs on a personal or proffesional level, but in all likelihood Russian would prove more useful. The Arab speakers are concentrated in the Israeli Arab neighborhoods while Russians are more evenly spread throughout the country, so it's more likely you'd need Russian in a situation rather than Arabic, of course unless you plan on living or working in/near an Arab area.
14 :
Of course Arabic. It's Israel official language alongside Hebrew.

"Sex-slaves in Israel work up to 18 hours a day" .. Where are the international standards?
Sex slavery rife in Israel For the last four years, between 3,000 and 5,000 women have been sold as sex slaves for 8,000 to 10,000 dollars and forced to work up to 18 hours a day, said the head of the inquiry, Zehava Gal-On, of the left-wing opposition Yahad party. http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_1681087,00.html

A lot of higher income areas in that part of the world have an astronomical human traffic problem including Dubai, Kuwait, and Qatar, as well as the rest of the world. While law enforcement wants to combat the problem, it's like the whole drug war, it is just too well funded. People always say focus on the kidnapper/pimp or drug dealer - but I say go after the customer. They'll be less armed and funded to defend themselves in court. If someone goes to a prostitute or uses drugs, take everything they own and use the proceeds to fight the higher ups and protect the victims.
2 :
Wow! You just found the one reason why I would ever want to go there..
3 :
Why wouldn't it? The Old Testament specifically authorizes Fathers to sell their daughters as sex slaves, it even give the commerce regulations for doing it. Christianity and Islam have been doing the same since their inception, why do you act as if, all of a sudden, this has just now become a problem? Slavery, even if called by other names for PR reasons, is common world wide and very little, if any, meaningful attempts are being made to stop it anywhere, such a trade is, as it always has been, simply too profitable. Slavery is like drugs, supply and demand. Demand means money to be made, money to be made means people will do what it takes to make it. We learned very painfully with U.S. Prohibition in the '20s, making something that vast numbers of people want illegal just makes organized crime bosses wealthy supplying it. When alcohol was legalized the Government banned then legal drugs like marijuana so the Prohibition cops and bootleggers could both keep their jobs. Now we've got Cocaine Dealers on the Forbes List. Prostitution is no different, when people want to buy sex and God says it's okay to sell women to them for that purpose you have to expect a thriving market. That's Economics 101.
4 :
The Sex Trade Industry is a billion and billion dollars business..there needs to be higher standards in combating this 'human trafficking'..with better international laws..slavery of any kind..dehumanizes people..it is wrong and illegal..

No Arab or Mid East country would ever, EVER join Israel in attacking another muslim country/people. Remember "Desert Storm" when Saddam launched Scuds against Israel? 3 :
The viral madness of the Muslims is not subject to being reasoned with when it is surrounded by millions who share the same dementia. We've seen their deep cultural insanity manifest itself around the world for weeks now. It is not the sad plaint of the "victim," but exactly what it appears to be -- a willful festival of unrestrained violence against any and all that do not share their ghastly vision of a stunted and medieval religion; a religion not of peace and toleration, but of brutality and subjegation. And what they learn with every passing day is that the world, so far, is more than willing to let them get away with it. What the world learns with every passing day is that the moderate Muslim is the one who will not burn you until tomorrow or the day after. This is the message that is coming out of this culture in word and deed, while many are deaf and blind to it.
