He told me that he worked at a summer camp in the USA last year - and they were able to offer him a job. This made him able to get a working visa. How can I do the same?

contact imigration, he has to apply for it from his country and get proper papers to leave the counrty.
2 :
Get him a J-1 visa. Check with the INS. A local 5 star hotel here gets people from Europe for a 1 year stay all the time.

why not just hire someone from the usa?

Contact the USCIS Office of Business Liaison, which is the office that helps employers like you through the process of hiring foreign workers. Check out the information on the USCIS website on how an employer can petition a foreign worker http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=91919c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=91919c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD or contact this office Fax: 1-202-272-1865 Toll-free line: 1-800-357-2099 TDD: 1-800-767-1833 Post: Office of Business Liaison 6th Floor 111 Massachusetts Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20539 http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=dd2596981298d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=91919c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD You will need to get him a WORK visa (not a J1 visa as the other answerer stated because J1 is just an exchange visitor visa). Work visas can be temporary such as H1/H2 (note though that quota for H1 is already filled till 2008) or employment immigration which leads to permanent residency but often requires Department of Labor certification (read: significantly longer processing time -- while H1B can be fastracked to 1-2 months, employment immigration can taken anywhere from 2-5 years depending on backlog of the state both at DOL and USCIS)
