is it possible to do a placement for say 3 months in Israel in this work and does the Israeli Tourist Board (I'm not sure of their name) require qualifications? I speak Spanish, Italian, Ladino, some Arabic, some Pothwari, English (fluently), some Persian and Albanian.

To answer you, firstly I'm very impressed at your language skills. Israel tour guides are a unique phenomenon, just as the country of Israel is a unique place. Since 1967, the profession of Israel tour guides is licensed by the Israeli Government and requires at least two years of University study. And this is not surprising, in light of the fact that the history, archeology, cultures and politics of the country are incredibly complicated, extensive, and connected to the lives of people across the world. So being an Israel tour guide is a serious responsibility. In order to become a licensed Israel tour guide, those interested apply to the Israel School of Tourism. Studies in the school take place throughout the country, in: Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv, Haifa, Beer Sheva. These are quite intensive and difficult studies including: prehistory, ancient and middle ages, the modern State of Israel and the region, and all nations that lived there in the past. Future Israel tour guides need to be versed in basic archeology, geology, climate, flaura and fauna, ornithology, architecture, zoology, etc. In the school, Israel tour guides study the legal system of the past and present. Hundreds of study days in the field accompany the course work. Integrative exams and licensing by the Ministry of Tourism complete the course of study. But acquiring a license is not the end of the story. During their professional life, Israel tour guides must refresh their knowledge and take part in special short courses every year. Such courses, supervised by the Ministry of Tourism, and taught by University lecturers and field researchers, allow Israel tour guides to maintain a high level of professional service. As professionals, Israel tour guides are united in the Association of Israel Tour Guides. The Association is part of the International Tour Guides Union. The Israel Tour Guides Association protects their members against unauthorized guiding and represents their interests in Government institutions. There are currently about two thousand active Israel tour guides in the country, working in about 100 different languages. The fact that a lot of Israel tour guides are originally from abroad, and have the understanding and mentality of their motherlands, helps them to connect better with their tourists. Many Israel tour guides have their own websites, but most of them advertise on this sites portal which gives every licensed Israel tour guide a great opportunity to be presented appropriately to tens of thousands of potential tourists considering a visit to Israel. You should browze this portal and get to chat to other tour guides รข€“ all very different in their personal characters, yet very similar in their love of the country and the profession.http://www.israelguides.org/~israelgu/english/index.php
